Chocolate Cake

Information about Wendy: Wendy is a resident from the Wanaaring area. Wanaaring is a small remote town 2.5 hours drive, west of Bourke NSW. Wendy has been in the Wanaaring district for as long as I can remember. She has six children with many grandchildren as well as great grandchildren. Wendy is a close family friend who is a great cook and has been kind enough to share some of her recipes with us on this site. Wendy obtained this recipe from a friend in Adelaide about 35 years ago and has shared it with many of her friends, due to it's simplicity and size.

Ingredients
  • 230 g butter / margarine
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 2.5 cups SR flour
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup cocoa
  • 2.5 cups castor sugar
Method
  • Cream butter and sugar
  • Add beaten eggs
  • Add sifted flour
  • Melt cocoa in boiling water (whisk together) - add to mixture
  • Pour mixture into 10 x 12 cake tin and bake at 180 deg C for 35-45 minutes
  • Remove and cool
