Steak and Onion Family Pie

Ingredients
  • 2 large onions sliced
  • 2 heaped teaspoons crushed garlic
  • 1.5kg Rump steak (cut into 1.5 cm cubes)
  • 1 cup beef stock
  • 1 stick celery finely diced
  • 1 small carrot finely diced
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon BBQ sauce
  • 1 cup plain flour
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Bought puff pastry
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 egg
Method
  • Heat saucepan, add a small amount of oil, and lightly fry onion, garlic, celery and carrot. Remove from heat. (I just wrap in alfoil)
  • Coat steak in flour (I normally use a lid with a bowl and just shake until coated)
  • Using the same pan on medium heat, cook the steak in batches until seared.
  • Return vegies to pan and add stock
  • Add sauces and salt plus pepper to taste
  • Cook for around 40mins until gravy reduces and steak is tender
  • Allow mixture to cool
  • Heat oven to 200 degree Celsius or 180 fan forced.
  • Spray a 30cm square baking dish with oil Line with pastry and score with a knife
  • Add meat filling and cover with pastry. Score pastry again.
  • Beat egg and coat the pastry
  • Place in oven until pastry is cooked

To serve
Dish Serve with vegies of your choice. Love this with mash potato, carrots and peas.
