Traditional Italian Pizza Dough

Ingredients
  • 1 teaspoon yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 ½ cups plain flour
  • ½ cups warm water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
Method
  • Combine yeast, sugar, 2 tablespoons flour and water in a small mixing bowl
  • Blend until smooth, cover and allow to stand 10 minutes until foamy
  • Sift remaining flour into a large bowl. Make a well in the centre, add yeast mixture and mix to a firm dough
  • Turn onto a lightly floured board and knead until smooth
  • Punch dough down and work (either with hands or a rolling pin) into a round to fit a pizza tray
  • Spread with olive oil
  • Spread with tomato or bbq sauce
  • Randomly place desired toppings over the base – equivalent to 1 ½ cups – including cheese
  • Place into very hot oven on prepared tray and bake for 8-10 minutes or until cheese has melted, base is cooked through and crispy
  • Try any of the following Vegetables Cheese and Meats - Eggplant, Feta, Smoked Salmon, Roasted Sweet Potato, Mozzarella, Tandoori Chicken, Artichoke, Parmesan, Semi-dried tomato
